Robert A. Macosky Center for sustainable Systems Education & Research Slippery Rock, PA
The Robert A. Macosky Center is a former farmhouse that is home to a program called Sustainable Systems Education and Research. DRS was commissioned to design a major retrofit for this building. The first priority was a thorough envelope upgrade to increase R values in walls, floors and roof and reduce air infiltration. Inefficient electric base board heat was replaced with a Geothermal heat pump system. A new porch and entry was also added. A new lighting system with vacancy sensors was added. All materials were selected for durability, recycled content or other sustainable features.
